Elder Young returns home this Wednesday!!!!

It has been neat to see the rest of my group meet here in Teresina to have a testimony meeting and a couple trainings. It´s just like Alma 17:1-2.  Yesterday I got to visit Elder Engle´s old area with him and visit some of his recent converts.  I learned so much from President just in a 30 minute interview.  The fruits of the mission are uncountable.  I´m excited to see you all.  Until Wednesday!

Families are Forever!

Dear family,

I don´t have many words to say - just a desire to give my all until the very last minute and finish with my whole heart.  What an amazing two years.  I am excited to see everyone soon!  And also wanting so much to have such amazing daily spiritual experiences for the rest of my life.  It is much harder to leave the mission than to leave for a mission.

I´m here in Santa Inez with Elder Engle and the rest of his district - our goal is to strengthen as much as possible the new group here before Elder Engle leaves.  They have 4 new families that will be baptized soon!

This week Valter and Patrícia were baptized! and married.  There also aren´t words to describe how happy I felt to see Patrícia in tears after lifting her up out of the water.

I know that families are forever.  I know we are each here for a purpose.  That purpose can be understood through prayer and daily feasting on the scriptures.  I know that Jesus Christ will lead us to eternal life if we follow Him.  The plan is so simple.  And the journey can be so joyful if we strive to keep the commandments because we love God.

Love you all; until the 5th!

I love every minute of the time I have here!!

Alo familia!

Hope all´s well in Arkansas.  That´s fun & funny you went to Branson again.  Life is good in São Luis - every day flies by faster and faster.  There are so many people here so ready to hear the Gospel.  I love every minute of the time I have here.

Tomorrow is Valter and Patricia´s marriage!  Thank you for so many prayers to help them.  I´m excited for them.  Their story will always be a part of my life.  What a neat family.  Saturday will be their baptism.  I´m also excited for Pedro, Viunicius, and Deborah.  Please pray for them as well to be ready by the 1st for their baptism.  There is no work more rewarding than missionary work.  So many miracles and memories made every day.  I am learning so much from every missionary with which I serve.

As there is a chance I´ll be on the bus next pday, heading one last time to Santa Inez with Elder Engle,  I´ll end with my testimony:

I know that Jesus Christ lives.  He is our Savior.  He is called "Savior" because He really saves.  He loves us so perfectly.  I have felt His love more deeply here on the mission than I could ever have imagined, as Dad promissed me in my blessing before I left.  What a neat experience it will be to have a blessing from Him when I get home.  I know Jesus Christ restored His authority and through that authority, we have the ability to return back to our Heavenly Home.  The temple is God´s house - every thing in the Gospel leads to having a happy family in the home.  God´s plan is perfect.  Jesus Christ is the Way.  The only Way to true happiness and eternal joy.  How I love Him.

Love you all!

Preparing for Zone Conference

Buenas tardes!  Good luck Ben at football today, and in your scrimmage tonight.  Tell everyone there oi for me.  I remember summer football practices - remember that at the beginning it´s tough but you´ll love it in the end if you don´t already.  That actually reminds me of a quote I heard this week that will be stuck forever em meu me()te.

Everything goes right in the end. If it´s not going right, it´s not the end!

This week we had a really good zone conference - it was about the power of the Book of Mormon in our lives and the importance of the Doctrine of Christ.  It makes a big difference when we go back to the basics.

All is going well - we started teaching  three new families this week!  I am excited to help them as well marry ad the get baptized.  Valter ad Patricia have may friends that are starting now to hear about the Gospel.

Scripture of the week:

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romas 8

We are preparig aother zone conference for tomorrow - President Melo is a very inspired man.  I have learned so much already from him.

Love you all!

Opa familia!

I loved getting the pictures.  That made me happy to hear the Hassells came down to visit with the Dobsons.  Also sounds like fun in Branson for the 4th!  We ate a big cake here to celebrate.  I am still amazed how much everyone has changed in 2 years.  Bryce sent me a photo of the day he left for his mission; that´s the image that I have in my head of how everyone appears!
Parabens Daddio on the presentation to the vice president of sales.  Giving trainings, etc. on the mission probably prepared you well for that.  I´m now starting to understand how Elder Holland can say there isn´t one day in his life he hasn´t thought about his mission.

This week.  Wow .  Every day´s so packed with spiritally experiences, we end each day in awe.  Even today while we were sending emails here in the church, a recent convert, Grijalvo, came in and asked for a priesthood blessing.  We showed him a couple mormon messages and gave him a blessing.  His mouth had been hurting from a recent surgery.  After the blessing the pain was completely gone.  God truly is our Father and understands the circumstances of each of His children.  His love is infinite and beyond our comprehension.

This week we went to the courthouse with Valter and Patricia!  They will be married on the 21st and their baptism the 25th.  Also Viunicius, Susie, and Deborah - please pray for them that they will be prepared to be baptized by that date.

Today we have been preparing for zone conference tomorrow which is why I´m emailing a bit later (and again without time to send pictures of Antonio & Lorena´s baptisms).  But all is well in Siao. (Luis)  I´m excited to have President Melo here to help the zone.  We went to Teresina this week and had a meeting with him - he is an incredible man & I have a lot yet to learn from him.

Love you all!
Um abraço forte,

Elder Young

Staying in Siao Luis

Opa família,

Tell Austin & Brooks hi for me!  That was good to get the Picture from Dad - hope they are doing well.  Parabéns também to Blakey boy - I just saw the newspaper article about him.

This week was one of the best of my mission.  We spent 3 days in Santa Inez because it is pretty far away, and interviewed four families to be baptized Saturday!  A family as big as ours was baptized there yesterday.  There are so many miracles happening there.  For now it is a group (soon a branch!), and the missionaries live there in the casapela.  It was very rewarding to serve with Elder Engle for 3 days.  It was amazing to see how much he has changed in 2 years. He has been serving as the group leader there (everyone is a recent convert). I have learned so much from Elder Engle.  The Gospel of Jesus Christ molds us to develop all Christlike attributes.

We received transfers this morning!  Which is why I´m emailing earlier than normal.  I will stay here in Siao Luis and Elder Avila will live with us here!  My new companion is Elder Lira from Johnville Santa Catarina (Southern Brazil).  Elder Da Cunha will serve with the new president in Teresina.  It will be hard to see him go, it was among the best two transfers of my mission serving here with him in São Luis.

Love each of you,

Elder Young

Zone Conference

Dear family,

It makes me happy to hear Ben´s off to EFY!  He will like the EFY in Denton.  Tell the Wagstaff´s & the Dobsons hi for me too.  That´s fun that Christy is in Arkansas.  Congrats Christy on completing the first whole year teaching school!  Bryce talked about in his email about knowing now how much Dad does for us, now working 8-5 at Tyson.  Every day I earn greater appreciation for what Dad does for us.  I can now see the many heathly habits he learned on his mission, how they´ve carried on into his every day life.  I know he was a good missionary. I´ve learned profoundly the importance of work.  And I´ve learned that I still have so much to learn. :)

This week was very good - we had zone conference!  The training was on the importance of faith - how absolute faith makes miracles happen.  This week was evidence of that!  It is amazing what happens when we simple follow what we know to be right.  I like the quote from David A Bednar - just be a good boy or a good girl, follow what you know is right, and you´ll be an instrument in the hands of God.

We just got back from the dentist - Elder Da Cunha took his wisdom teeth out today.  I´ll be working with a member a couple days while he is recovering and then we will both go to Santa Inez to work a day with Elder Engle and Elder Walker!

All is well in Siao.

Traveling to Santa Inez

This Monday we will be traveling to Santa Inez, so we got permission to email a quick email tonight - today Antonio was baptized!

I will send a picture the next chance I get - He is 92 years old!  and is as healthy as Great Grandpa Bryce.   It was one of the neatest experiences of my mission to see his baptism.  Elder Da Cunhu is getting better - he had another surgery today is why we didn´t travel to Santa Inez this week.  Jose and Veranilce are very close to getting baptized - they came to an activity yesterday after 3 months absent from church on Sunday! Thank you for praying for them.

All is well, 1 Nephi 14:14

Love you all!

New mission President

Tudo beleza,

Blake you never cease to amaze.  Parabens meu amigo.  I will vote for you when you run for president. :)  I loved the pictures from Branson; that makes me happy Terra got to see Silver Dollar City.

This past week was amazing.  We went to Teresina for a meeting with President - it was his last before he will go home.  I could feel he gave his heart to every calling he´s been given.  Each of his (three!) missions, he´s given every moment to God.  The feeling we all felt during that meeting doesn´t have words.  I wish I could just capture that feeling, add a little Brazilian culture and send it in a bottle to you, so that you could experience the joy of a mission.  President Mellow will be our new mission president in a couple weeks.  He will be my fourth mission president!

It seems like every week God teaches me a new principle of the Gospel.  Or, really an eternal principle, that becomes new to me.  This week He taught me about the power of faith.  I know that if we are worthy, and have faith in the power of God, He will grant us a miracle.  Time after time after time I have seen this pattern in my mission.  Be worthy, focused, and have faith that God will perform a miracle.   As we do our part, God works the miracle.

If ye  abide  in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask  what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. -John 15:7

Any righteous desire we have, whether it be "I want to be a neurosergeon one day" or "I want to get an A in this class" or "I want to help this person be happy," we can fulfull it with faith.  Our part is to then make plans with God and act on those plans.  All things are possible in Christ.
This week we put this to practice in helping people come to church and God did his part.  No one that we invited came to church, but six members brought friends to church who we are now teaching!

Have a good week.  Love each of you!

Happy Birthday Blake!

Aloha familia,

Happy late birthday Blake!  It made me happy to hear they did a surprise party for you.  I bought you a present here the day of your birthday to celebrate.  You are going to like it a lot.
I liked the pictures as well of the twins field day.  I´ll have to race to twins too someday to see if they got as fast as they got tall.

This week I just had time to send some pictures - the rest of the pictures from baptisms are on Elder Da Cunhas camera so I´ll send them the next time I can.  Thank you for the millions of prayers!  It is amazing how specifically and frequently they are answered.

God lives.

Love you all,

Still Serving in Sao Luis :)

Tudo bem todos,

It´s good to hear from you as always.  Brooks, I just saw the picture you drew on a picture in my email. That´s pretty awesome.  Thank you bro.  I´m still in disbelief that my family is so tall.  It blew me away to see how much everyone had grown.  I think I´ll be the shrimp of the family.  Every morning we make protein shakes and eat shrimp every once in a while so that I can stand a chance against Blake in arm wresting.

This week was very good - Elder da Cunha is one of the most hard working and organized missionaries I have yet served with.  It has been awesome serving with him.  Tomorrow President will be interviewing the missionaries here, so we are excited for him to come.  We used a little bit of time earlier to get organized is why I´m emailing a bit later.

Luciana was baptized Saturday!  She is very excited to be a part of the church and will be a big strength to the ward here.  Grijalvo will receive the priesthood tomorrow as well.  I am excited for him.  He is very anxious to serve a mission and will start doing visits with us this week!  Mylliane is also helping her parents get baptized.  Please keep praying for Jose and Veranilce for their hearts to be softened and understand that their family can live together for eternity after this life is they accept to be baptized.

In sacrament meeting we had a miracle happen.  After the confirmation of Luciana and Mylliane, an investigator, Pedro felt that he should be baptized as well.  He came up to us after the meeting and asked to move his baptism to this Saturday!  Please pray that the interview will go well tomorrow.

There is no more rewarding and renewing work than missionary work.  I can´t begin to describe the joy it is to see the lives of so many changing as they accept the grace of Jesus Christ.  And decide to live the commandments out of LOVE for God.
God has a special place in his heart for the people here in Brazil.  He´s pouring out blessings here because the people here are so humble and good hearted."  Zion is bound to rise and flourish. The Lamanites will blossom as the rose on the mountains. . . . Every word that God has ever said of them will have its fulfillment, and they, by and by, will receive the Gospel. It will be a day of God’s power among them, and a nation will be born in a day.”
So true.
Love you all!

Busy in Brazil

Howdy Braxton & boa tarde familia,

Loved getting the videos from the piano recital.  I´m amazed at how well you guys are playing. That makes me happy Elder Fairbanks mom found out about the birthday party.  When he woke up Elder Sharp had put a big chocolate cake and a bunch of balloons on his desk! I know Mom is happy that it all came from Walmart.

Thank you for praying for Jose, Milliane, Edson, and Valdeane.  Milliane will be baptized Saturday!  Another miracle happened and Grijalvo will be baptized the same day.  We brought him with us when we went to Teresina Monday to be interviewed by president.  (I´m writing today because we on the way to Teresina Monday for a meeting.)  This week has already flown by getting things ready for zone conference.

The miracle this week was a simple one:  I prayed to find the key to our apartment on the way out the door, opened my eyes and Elder da Cunha found it right when I said "amen!"  Throughout the week other simple prayers like that were answered so perfectly.

30 For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom; for unto him thatreceiveth I will give more...
Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.
And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls.

Pictures from Sao Luis!

Elder Young was so happy to be able to shop at a Walmart today and he sent lots of pictures because he knew mom would love the assurance that he finally has a store to get things if he needs them!

Elder Young thought it looked like the plane had a CTR on the side of it!

Down by the bay!

It's so nice in Sao Luis!

Alo familia!

I loved getting the pictures from Blakes play and the twins playing basketball.  Everyone just keeps growing and growing, and I already look up to all of you.   This week I only have 5 minutes to write, but it was a very good week.  It has been in the 80s!  It is very nice here in Sao Luis.  All is well.  This week please pray for Jose, Milliane, Edson, and Valdeane, two couples who will be married and after be baptized soon.  Elder Engle is opening an area in Santa Ines here in the zone and it has been a lot of fun helping him out there.

Also Jared Fairbanks, who is good friends with Aubrey, Jenessa, and Seth Vincent is in my district!  He´s from Columbus, Indiana and said he also knows Emily Haight and Hayden.  pequeno mundo.  He is awesome.  And will be celebrating his birthday this week.  If you get in contact somehow with his mom, tell her we´re going to have a big celebration on the 25th - I´ll be doing an exchange with him on that day (though he doesn´t yet know that)

This morning I was reading in Teachings of Brigham Young and found this quote that I like a lot

What principal object have human beings in view? Happiness. Give me glory, give me power, give me wealth, give me a good name, give me influence with my fellow-men, give me all these, and it does not follow that I am thereby made happy; that depends altogether upon what principle those acquisitions were gained ( DBY, 235).
We are all searching for happiness; we hope for it, we think we live for it, it is our aim in this life. But do we live so as to enjoy the happiness we so much desire? ( DBY,236).
Where is happiness, real happiness? Nowhere but in God. By possessing the spirit of our holy religion, we are happy in the morning, we are happy at noon, we are happy in the evening; for the spirit of love and union is with us, and we rejoice in the spirit because, it is of God, and we rejoice in God, for he is the giver of every good thing.

Love you all very much.  Rejoice in every good thing. Remember to be happy
Um abraço,
Elder Young

Siao Luis

That´s exciting Bryce and Terra will move to Arkansas this month!  And that Ben got his patriarchal blessing.  That must´ve been a neat experience.  What is the name of the play Blake will be in?  I fasted, Blakey boy, for your back.  Good luck in track.

I had a good first week in Siao Luis.  It is an island here and we live close to the beach.  Paradise in my Portuguese dictionary says a missionary living on a Brazilian island with a companion who loves to work and help everyone get baptized.  If it were God´s will I´d stay here a couple more years but I know I can~t do that.  Maybe someday I´ll return as a missionary here.  The ward here is very strong and missionary focused.  Testimony meeting yesterday was amazing.  I get near to tears almost every first Sunday of the month.  I wish I could just take the culture here and send it in a package to you guys.  Instead I´ll send a scripture that describes it well

Now  have  we  not  reason  to  rejoice?  Yea,   say  unto  you,  there never  were  men  that  had  so  great  reason  to  rejoice  as  we,  since  the world  began;  yea,  and  my  joy  is carried  away,  even  unto  boasting in  my  God;  for  he  has  all  power  all  wisdom,  and  all understanding;  he  comprehendeth  all  things,  and  he  is   merciful Being,  even  unto  salvation,  to  those  who  will  repent  and  believe on  his  name.

Now my brethren, we see that God is mindful of every peoplewhatsoever land they may be in; yea, he numbereth his people, and his bowels of mercy are over all the earth. Now this is my joy, and my great thanksgiving; yea, and will give thanks unto my God forever. Amen.

-Alma 26.35&37

God loves so much each of His children.  He wants each one to talk with Him through prayer.  and be baptized, so that they can return back to llive with Him.  Only through Jesus Christ can we be saved.  It is our responsibility to share the good news with everyone we know.  This week we found three new famlies that will be baptized soon!  All is well in Siao.

Love you all,

Elder Young

Elder Young was just transferred to Sao Luis!!

Just got transferred to Sao Luis!  It´s an island in Brazil off the coast!  Holey moley.  That was a fast change.  I think I will finish my mission there in Sao Luis. Sao Luis is cooler and it's a nice area.

Staying at the staff house is Heaven!  There is a subway sandwich shop next door and we had pizza for dinner!!!

This is what happened to Elder Young's suit when he left for Teresina and left the dehumidifies(fans) off in the clothes room!  This is fungi!!!!! It is so humid there!
