Busy in Brazil

Howdy Braxton & boa tarde familia,

Loved getting the videos from the piano recital.  I´m amazed at how well you guys are playing. That makes me happy Elder Fairbanks mom found out about the birthday party.  When he woke up Elder Sharp had put a big chocolate cake and a bunch of balloons on his desk! I know Mom is happy that it all came from Walmart.

Thank you for praying for Jose, Milliane, Edson, and Valdeane.  Milliane will be baptized Saturday!  Another miracle happened and Grijalvo will be baptized the same day.  We brought him with us when we went to Teresina Monday to be interviewed by president.  (I´m writing today because we on the way to Teresina Monday for a meeting.)  This week has already flown by getting things ready for zone conference.

The miracle this week was a simple one:  I prayed to find the key to our apartment on the way out the door, opened my eyes and Elder da Cunha found it right when I said "amen!"  Throughout the week other simple prayers like that were answered so perfectly.

30 For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom; for unto him thatreceiveth I will give more...
Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.
And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls.
2 Nephi 9:20 & Alma 37:6

Love you all; have a good week!

Pictures from Sao Luis!

Elder Young was so happy to be able to shop at a Walmart today and he sent lots of pictures because he knew mom would love the assurance that he finally has a store to get things if he needs them!

Elder Young thought it looked like the plane had a CTR on the side of it!

Down by the bay!

It's so nice in Sao Luis!

Alo familia!

I loved getting the pictures from Blakes play and the twins playing basketball.  Everyone just keeps growing and growing, and I already look up to all of you.   This week I only have 5 minutes to write, but it was a very good week.  It has been in the 80s!  It is very nice here in Sao Luis.  All is well.  This week please pray for Jose, Milliane, Edson, and Valdeane, two couples who will be married and after be baptized soon.  Elder Engle is opening an area in Santa Ines here in the zone and it has been a lot of fun helping him out there.

Also Jared Fairbanks, who is good friends with Aubrey, Jenessa, and Seth Vincent is in my district!  He´s from Columbus, Indiana and said he also knows Emily Haight and Hayden.  pequeno mundo.  He is awesome.  And will be celebrating his birthday this week.  If you get in contact somehow with his mom, tell her we´re going to have a big celebration on the 25th - I´ll be doing an exchange with him on that day (though he doesn´t yet know that)

This morning I was reading in Teachings of Brigham Young and found this quote that I like a lot

What principal object have human beings in view? Happiness. Give me glory, give me power, give me wealth, give me a good name, give me influence with my fellow-men, give me all these, and it does not follow that I am thereby made happy; that depends altogether upon what principle those acquisitions were gained ( DBY, 235).
We are all searching for happiness; we hope for it, we think we live for it, it is our aim in this life. But do we live so as to enjoy the happiness we so much desire? ( DBY,236).
Where is happiness, real happiness? Nowhere but in God. By possessing the spirit of our holy religion, we are happy in the morning, we are happy at noon, we are happy in the evening; for the spirit of love and union is with us, and we rejoice in the spirit because, it is of God, and we rejoice in God, for he is the giver of every good thing.

Love you all very much.  Rejoice in every good thing. Remember to be happy
Um abraço,

Siao Luis

That´s exciting Bryce and Terra will move to Arkansas this month!  And that Ben got his patriarchal blessing.  That must´ve been a neat experience.  What is the name of the play Blake will be in?  I fasted, Blakey boy, for your back.  Good luck in track.

I had a good first week in Siao Luis.  It is an island here and we live close to the beach.  Paradise in my Portuguese dictionary says a missionary living on a Brazilian island with a companion who loves to work and help everyone get baptized.  If it were God´s will I´d stay here a couple more years but I know I can~t do that.  Maybe someday I´ll return as a missionary here.  The ward here is very strong and missionary focused.  Testimony meeting yesterday was amazing.  I get near to tears almost every first Sunday of the month.  I wish I could just take the culture here and send it in a package to you guys.  Instead I´ll send a scripture that describes it well

Now  have  we  not  reason  to  rejoice?  Yea,   say  unto  you,  there never  were  men  that  had  so  great  reason  to  rejoice  as  we,  since  the world  began;  yea,  and  my  joy  is carried  away,  even  unto  boasting in  my  God;  for  he  has  all  power  all  wisdom,  and  all understanding;  he  comprehendeth  all  things,  and  he  is   merciful Being,  even  unto  salvation,  to  those  who  will  repent  and  believe on  his  name.

Now my brethren, we see that God is mindful of every peoplewhatsoever land they may be in; yea, he numbereth his people, and his bowels of mercy are over all the earth. Now this is my joy, and my great thanksgiving; yea, and will give thanks unto my God forever. Amen.

-Alma 26.35&37

God loves so much each of His children.  He wants each one to talk with Him through prayer.  and be baptized, so that they can return back to llive with Him.  Only through Jesus Christ can we be saved.  It is our responsibility to share the good news with everyone we know.  This week we found three new famlies that will be baptized soon!  All is well in Siao.

Love you all,

Elder Young

Elder Young was just transferred to Sao Luis!!

Just got transferred to Sao Luis!  It´s an island in Brazil off the coast!  Holey moley.  That was a fast change.  I think I will finish my mission there in Sao Luis. Sao Luis is cooler and it's a nice area.

Staying at the staff house is Heaven!  There is a subway sandwich shop next door and we had pizza for dinner!!!

Elder Young's suit !!!

This is what happened to Elder Young's suit when he left for Teresina and left the dehumidifies(fans) off in the clothes room!  This is fungi!!!!! It is so humid there!

Happy Easter! & Merry Christmas de verdade.

It was fun to hear about your holiday.  Tell the Brooksby´s hi for me!  I hope you all enjoyed conference.  Conference is bigger than the superbowl on the mission and the Saints won.  Thank you Mom for sending off the package.  I have been missing Grandma Sylvia´s vitamin C´s. :)  That´s exciting about Bryce coming down to Arkansas!  Tim Price will enjoy working with him.  Tell the Price´s hi for me too.

This week was very rewarding.  The miracles too continue to pour.  I feel like God is testing me to see how much I´ll remember him even in the good times.  I´ve learned, above about every thing else here in Brazil, to be grateful.  Tuesday we went up to Teresina for zone meeting and stayed in the staff house.  Missionaries call the staff house heaven because it´s like the MTC free agency or premortal life - where all missionaries go before being assigned an area.  It´s also called heaven becuse the shower there has a hot water heater and is next door to a Subway.  It was beyond words good to have a footlong for lunch and pizza at night!  I felt like we had already been exalted and were enjoying eternal life. (which is actually true according to that talk Dad sent:).

Then to watch general conference was like beans on the rice.  The talk about Captain Moroni in priesthood session reminded me of Daddio.  I know he liked that talk.  Elder Holland´s talk was very good as well and my favorite.

The miracle that happened this week was that an investigator we stopped visiting came to church!  He decided he changed his mind and really did want to be baptized.  He had also been sober for a week which was a goal we had set with him.  I know that the atonement works miracles.  We all desperately need a Savior.  I am very grateful to know Who can make my weaknesses strengths.  and Who can make my sins as white as snow.

And  if  men  come  unto  me   will  show  unto  them  their  weakness  give  unto  men  weakness  that  they  may  be  humble;  and  my  grace  is sufficient  for  all  men  that  humble  themselves  before  me;  for  if  they humble  themselves  before  me,  and  have  faith  in  me,  then  will  make  weak  things  become  strong  unto  them. - Ether 12:27

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord:  though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. - Isaiah 1:18

Love you all.  "Let your soul delight in fatness" (2 Nephi 9:51) reading and watching the conference talks.  They are truly life changing.  Because the Gospel is a way of life.  Living life for Christ leads to the best life lived.  Realism is actually optimism because He lives.

Conference Week!!!

~O ~O ~O Happy birthday Terra! O~ O~ O~
Hope you have a good birthday this week.  It´s awesome to finally have a sister.
Thanks for all the pictures and emails!  The Alamo.  That makes me happy you all were able to visit the Riverwalk as well.  When people ask me what state I´m from I always say Arkansas, and then they respond "O que?" and then I explain that I live close to Texas and they understand.  Now I just have to show the picture of the Alamo and they will really think I´m a Texan.
We are getting excited here for general conference.  This weekend we´ll go up to Teresina to watch it.  Usually the whole group goes to Teresina because there they have good web service.
This Saturay we met Luis who is about my age and is very excited to get baptized.  He said he was looking for a church and wants to understand better the purpose of his life.  it is a lot of fun to converse with him .  I learn so much from very person we help enter the waters of baptism.  On the way here to the copouter house (lanhouse em Portugués) another person stopped us on the street asking if we could visit their family.  God has prepared so many good people here in Brazil to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  I feel humbled to teach such amazing people - who could prabably teach me more than I could teach them about Jesus Chrst.  It´s a good thing God is really is The One teaching us both.

"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." - Matthew 18;20
Love each of you!
